Web Designer
(History, upsides, downsides)
History of Web Design
In 1989, Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web at CERN to help scientists share information. The first website, was made in 1991, and it was very basic, with only a few blue hyperlinks on a white background.
Flash (1996) Macromedia Flash enabled complex animations and interactive menus that HTML could not yet support. JavaScript (1995) Created by Brendan Eich at Netscape, it introduced client-side interactivity, such as form validation and button reactions. Platforms like WordPress (2003) democratized web design, allowing non-technical users to build sites using templates.
And now, AI tools have been surging in popularity the past few years, because of their skill to create very complex websites with little effort from a person creating a prompt.
Upsides
Web designers enjoy high career flexibility, with opportunities for remote work and freelancing. Being a web designer offers high creative freedom, excellent flexibility, remote work, and artistic expression. I can work from home and I don't have a tightly packed schedule.
Downsides
Being a web designer involves high-pressure, long hours, often including evenings and weekends, to meet strict deadlines. Unfortunately, my job might soon be replaced by artificial intelligence, its realistic salary is considered relatively low, there's very demanding deadlines and clients, and not to mention scope creep.
/skəʊp kriːp/
noun (uncountable)
Scope creep is the uncontrolled, undocumented expansion of a project's requirements beyond its original goals, often occurring gradually. It's very common in graphic design careers.
